Scenario 1:Genetic engineering can be used to create more productive strains of farm animals. By adding genes to an animal's DNA, the animal can be made to produce milk or meat containing vital nutrients that would not be found naturally in those products. This provides a greater amount of nutrients per serving of milk or meat. Do you think that this type of genetic engineering should be pursued? Explain your answer. What are some possible impacts (positive and negative) of this type of genetic engineering on individuals, society, and the environment?

In this scenario, we are talking about GMO's which is a very controversial topic that has been widely discussed as well as there are benefits and consequences.

Among the listed benefits are major productivity, better nutrimental qualities, plague/disease resistance, as well as resistance to harsh environmental conditions. However, as many benefits seem to be there are also quite serious consequences.

Among the consequences are Soil pollution, water table contamination, a decrease in insects populations that generate environmental disequilibrium increasing bug pests or extinguishing important insects such as bees, genetic contamination, economic inequality, and finally many of these engineered organisms are sterile and therefore cannot be reproduced by farmers each year new germplasm must be bought.

Some conclusions: If it is true that genetic engineering has brought benefits, especially to human health, it has severe consequences, therefore, is not a bad technology however must be used very carefully.
