Sarah is making a scale drawing of a painting that is 48 in. wide by 120 in. high. Her paper is 12 in. wide and 24 in. tall. She decides to use the scale 1in. =4in. Is this a reasonable scale? I have 48/12=4120/24=5

Answer:

No. It is not a reasonable scale

Step-by-step explanation:

The scale drawing must fit Sarah's paper. If it doesn't then the scale Sarah is using is not reasonable.

Now, we are told that the painting is 48 in x 120 in.

We are also told that on the scale 1in = 4 in.

Therefore, 48 in on the scale are

48 / 4 = 12 in

and 120 in on the scale are

120 / 4 = 30 in

This tells us that if Sarah chooses 1in = 4in as a scale, then her scaled painting would be 12 in x 30 in. Since Sarah's paper measures 12 in x 24 in ( which is smaller than 2 in x 30 in), her scaled painting would not fit into the paper.

Therefore, we conclude that Sarah's scale is not reasonable.
