The diagram shows two circles, one with a radius of 3cm and the other inner circle with a radius of 2cm. The difference in the area of both is shown as the shaded region. Therefore, we would calculate this as follows;

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of a circle=}\pi* r^2 \\ \text{Area of shaded region=(}\pi*3^2)-(\pi*2^2) \\ \text{Area of shaded region=(28.26)-(12.56)} \\ \text{Area of shaded region=15.7 cm}^2 \end{gathered}
