\begin{gathered} \text{length of the rectangle = }2(1)/(4) \\ \text{width = }4(1)/(2) \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} \text{ For any rectangle,} \\ \text{area of the rectangle = length }*\text{ width} \end{gathered}

In our case,


\text{the area of the rectangle = }2(1)/(4)*4(1)/(2)=(9)/(4)*(9)/(2)=(81)/(8)=10(1)/(8)\text{ square units}

Therefore,

the area is 10 1/8 square units
