In order to graph the inequality y < x + 1 we just have to graph the line y = x + 1 and since we have a < symbol, we have to shade the area below the graph. We can graph a line by specifying two points of it with its equation, we do this by just replacing a value of x and solving for the corresponding value of y, like this:

the equation of the line is y = x + 1

at x = -1

y = -1 + 1 = 0

at x = 2

y = 2 + 1 = 3

Then, the line passes through the points (-1, 0) and (2, 3)

Now that we know two points of the line we can graph it and shade the area below it, in this case, the line should be a shaded l
