I know that you need to use the pythagorean theorem for this but I don't know what-example-1

As you wisely noticed, since we have a right angle triangle, in order to find the length of one of the legs, we need to use Pythagoras:


x=\sqrt[]{13^2-11^2}=\sqrt[]{48}

Since 48 is NOT a perfect square, the answer will give you an irrational number with decimal form including an infinite number of decimal values:


x\approx6.92820323\ldots

In order to round the answer we got to a HUNDREDTH we need to include TWO decimals for the answer.

then we round this value to:

x = 6.93
