Y= x+8 (a)

Y=4x-1 (b)

Put (b) into (a)

4x-1 = x+8

Move the letter terms to the right:

4x-x =8+1

Combine like terms

3x= 9

Divide both side of the equation by 3:

3x/3 =9/3

x= 3

replace x=3 in (b)

y=4x-1

Solve for y

y= 4(3)-1

y= 12-1

y=11
