Frederico wants to put new wood floors in two bedrooms. The first bedroom is 10ft. long and 10ft. wide. The second bedroom is 12ft. long and 12ft. wide. The wood sections come in boxes that include 30 square feet in every box. How many boxes will he have to buy to cover both bedrooms?

To find the amount of boxes, first we need to calculate the total area of the bedrooms. The area of the bedrooms is the sum of the areas of each bedroom.

The area of each bedroom is given by the product between the length of the bedroom and the width.

The area of the first bedroom is

A_1=10*10=100

and the area of the second bedroom is

A_2=12*12=144

therefore, the total area of the bedrooms is

A_1+A_2=244

244 ft².

To find the amount of boxes, we just have to divide the total area of the bedrooms by the area of wood in each box.

(244)/(30)=8.133333...

Frederico must buy 8.1333... boxes. If the store doesn't sell fractions of boxes, then he must buy 9 boxes to cover both bedrooms.
