We have:


\begin{gathered} x+y=10.5 \\ x-3.25=y \end{gathered}

Then:


\begin{gathered} x+(x-3.25)=10.5 \\ 2x-3.25=10.5 \\ 2x=10.5+3.25 \\ 2x=13.75 \\ x=(13.75)/(2) \\ x=6.875 \end{gathered}
y=x-3.25=6.875-3.25=3.625

The numbers are 6.875 and 3.625.
