4(x+5)^2-8=88

Add 8 to each side

4(x+5)^2-8+8=88+8

4(x+5)^2=96

Divide each side by 4

4/4(x+5)^2=96/4

(x+5)^2=24

Take the square root of each side

sqrt((x+5)^2)= ± sqrt(24)

x+5 = ± sqrt(4*6)

x+5 = ± sqrt(4)sqrt(6)

x+5 = ± 2sqrt(6)

Subtract 5 from each side

x+5-5 = -5 ± 2sqrt(6)

x = -5 ± 2sqrt(6)
