Let x be the number;

Double it: 2x

Multiply by 4: 2x*4

Then divide by 4 less than the number:

(2x*4)/(x-4)

Get a result of 24:

(2x*4)/(x-4)=24

Solve x to find the number:

\begin{gathered} (8x)/(x-4)=24 \\ \\ 8x=24(x-4) \\ 8x=24x-96 \\ 8x-24x=-96 \\ -16x=-96 \\ x=(-96)/(-16) \\ \\ x=6 \end{gathered}

Then, if the number is 6; you double it: 12; then multiply by 4: 48; then divided into 4 less than the number (6-4=4) it is equal to 24

The number is 6
