The Green Party at a large university plans to line both sides of an 18 foot long hallway with posters endorsing a candidate for state senate. Each of the posters cost of $3.95, there're 3 feet wide, and they will be 2 feet between posters. Assume the first poster on each end will be exactly even with the start of the hall. Estimate how much this will cost.

Since the width of each poster is 3 feet and there is 2 feet space between every 2 posters, then

We need to divide the length of the hallway by 3 + 2 = 5 feet

Since the length of the hallway is 18 feet, then

18/5 = 3 + remainder 3 because 3 x 5 = 15 feet for 3 posters and 3 spaces, then the remaining is 18 - 15 = 3 feet

Since the remaining is 3 feet and the poster wide is 3 feet, then we can add another poster

Then the number of posters is 4

Since the cost of each poster is $3.95

Then the total cost = 4 x 3.95 = $15.8

If we round the answer to the nearest dollar, then it should be $16
