State the formula for the distance of a line.

\begin{gathered} C=(-1,7) \\ D=(5,1) \end{gathered}

Step 2

Find the length of line CD


\begin{gathered} d=\sqrt[]{(5-(-1))^2+(1-7)^2_{}} \\ d=\sqrt[]{6^2+(-6)^2} \\ d=\sqrt[]{36+36} \\ d=\sqrt[]{72} \\ d=6\sqrt[]{2} \end{gathered}

Step 3

Find 1/3 of the way from C and D


=(1)/(3)*6\sqrt[]{2}=2\sqrt[]{2}
