Peter wants to cover the floor with ceramic tiles. The floor has the shape of a trapezoid bases of 70 feet and 45 feet and a height of 15 feet. How many tiles does he need to buy, if one tile is of 1.3 ft.²?

The area of the trapezoid is:


A=(1)/(2)(b_1+b_2)h

plugging the values given we have:


\begin{gathered} A=(1)/(2)(70+45)15 \\ A=862.5 \end{gathered}

Now that we know the area of the floor we divide it by the area of each tile, then we have:


(862.5)/(1.3)=663.46

Therefore we need 664 tiles (we need to round up) to cover the floor.
