isolate the w.

-1/2 + w < 3/4

1) add 1/2 to both sides so that you'll get:

w < 1/2 + 3/4

2) Create common denominators.

(1*2)/(2*2) + (3*1)/(3*1) = 2/4 + 3/4

*The 3/4 can stay the same because denominator-4 is the LCD.*

now you have w < 2/4 + 3/4

3) simplify

w < 5/4
