(-5)^2 and -5^2 how are they different

One has parentheses and one does not.

(-5)^2 is equivalent to:


(-5)^2=(-5)\cdot(-5)=25

However -5^2 is equivalent to:


-5^2=-(5\cdot5)=-25

Answer: (-5)^2 and -5^2 have different signs.
