The given triangle is

Recall that the formula for tan is

\tan \theta=\frac{Opposite\text{ side}}{\text{adjacent side}}
\text{Substitute Opposite side=14 , adjacent side=x and }\theta=27^o,\text{ we get}

\tan 27^o=(14)/(x)
\text{Use }tan27^o=0.509.

0.509=(14)/(x)

x=\frac{14}{\text{0}.509}=27.505

Hence the x value is 27.5.
