According to Pythagoras theorem we have,

\text{Hypotenuse}=\sqrt[]{Base^2+Altitude^2}

1)

We have,

Base = 16

Altitude = 19

Hypotenuse = x.

Therefore,

x=\sqrt[]{16^2+19^2}=24.83

The pythagoras theorem applies to right angled triangle. Consider the triangle, ABC,

If we know the two sides base and altitude, the third side hypoteuse can be calculated as,

\begin{gathered} \text{Hypotenuse}^2=Base^2+Altitude^2 \\ \text{Hypotenuse}=\sqrt[]{Base^2+Altitude^2} \end{gathered}

This is Pythagoras theorem.
