When the lid of a box is opened, the gas molecules in the box would escape causing a decrease in the pressure inside the box.

Due to the collision of the molecules with each other and with the walls of the box, there will be a certain pressure inside the box. When the gas molecules escape, the distance between any two molecules will decrease. This decreases the pressure inside the box.
