We will solve as follows:

$x^2-9=-1\Rightarrow x^2=9-1$
$\Rightarrow x^2=8\Rightarrow x=\sqrt[]{8}$
$\Rightarrow x=\sqrt[]{4\cdot2}\Rightarrow x=2\sqrt[]{2}$

So, x = 2*sqrt(2).
