First, express in slope-intercept form: ( solve for y)

x+y= 5

x+y= 3

y= -x + 5

y= -x + 5

y=mx+b

where:

m= slope ( rise/run)

b= y-intercept ( where the line crosses the y axis)

So, for the first equation:

y= -x + 5

m= -1 ( goes 1 unit down for every unit to the right)

b= 5 ( crosses the y axis at y=5)

Graph:

Same process for the second function:

y=-x+3

Since the lines are parallel, they never cross each other, so there is NO SOLUTION.
