Let x be the rental cost for each movie

Let y be the rental cost for each video games

From the question;

7 rental movie and 9 rental video games cost a tota of $78

Hence;

7x + 9y = 78 ---------------------------------------(1)

Similarly;

5 rental movies and 3 rental video games cost $36

5x + 3y = 36 ----------------------------------------(2)

We can solve (1) and (2) simultaneously using the elimination method

To do that, multiply equation(1) by 3 and equation(2) by 9

21x + 27y = 234 ------------------------------(3)

45x + 27y =324 ------------------------------(4)

subtract equation (3) from (4)

24x = 90

Divide both-side of the equation by 24

x=3.75

substitute x=3.75 into equation(2) and then solve for y

5x + 3y = 36

5(3.75) + 3y = 36

18.75 + 3y = 36

subtract 18.75 from both-side of the equation

3y =17.25

divide both-side of the equation by 3

y= 5.75

Hence;

The rental cost of each movie is $3.75

The rental cost of each video game = $ 5.75
