The value of x is not a solution to the equation

Here, we want to determine if the given value of x is a solution to the equation

What we need to do here is to substitute the value of x in the equation

If after substitution, what we have on the right handside of the equation is equal to what we have on the lefthand side, then the value of x is a solution to the equation

For the lefthand side

2(1) + 4 = 2 + 4 = 6

For the right hand side,

-3(1)-2 = -3-2 = -5

Since the two sides are not equal, then we can conclude that the value of x is not a solution to the equation
