By definition, a function is increasing when the y-value increases as the x-value increases

\begin{gathered} f(x_1)and a function is decreasing when the y-value decreases as the x-value increases[tex]\begin{gathered} f(x_1)>f(x_2) \\ x_1Using those definitions, we can see that the function[tex]y=|x-1|-2

is stricly decreasing on the interval

(-\infty,1)

and stricly increasing on the interval

(1,\infty)
