All you need to do is solve for x and y because the intersection of both lines will only have one intersection.

since both equations are equal to y then you can set them equal to each other:

7x+8=x+1

6x=-7

x=-7/6

then inset back into y=x+1

y=-7/6+1

y=1/6

so that is the only point of intersection of the lines and it cannot be (3,8)
