Area for square with side length 2 inches:

A = base x height = 2 inches x 2 inches = 4 inches^2

Now, for a circle with a radius 1.2 inches, we have:


A=r^2\pi=(1.2)^2\text{ }\pi\text{ }\approx4.52in^2

but notice that


4.52\text{ > 4}

so we can conclude that the area of the square is less than the area of the given circle.
