Meristematic tissue are plant tissues that is describe to be small and thickly packed that has the ability to break down into new cells. Its primary role is on the elongation and growth of the plants.

There are 3 types of meristematic tissues are the following:

a. Protoderm which eventually becomes the epidermis

b. Ground meristem which will be the ground tissues (parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma cells)

c. Procambium which will be the vascular tissues (xylem and phloem)

Example of a primary meristem is the apical meristem which can be found in the root apex and shoot apex. These structures does not contain an inferior cell wall therefore it only possess a primary cell wall.
