Compare the forces required to push a fridge across a floor if, in one case, friction does not exist and in the other case friction does exist; Fridge mass = 100 kg and μk = 0.40.

The mass of the fridge, m = 100 kg

The acceleration due to gravity, g = 10 m/s²

The coefficient of friction, μk = 0.40

The force required to push a fridge across a floor if friction does not exist is:

\begin{gathered} F=mg+ma \\ F=m(g+a) \end{gathered}

The force required to push a fridge across a floor if friction does exist is:

\begin{gathered} F=\mu mg+ma \\ F=m(\mu g+a) \end{gathered}
