Monique needs to rent a car while on vacation. The rental company charges $17.95, plus 15 cents for each mile driven. If Monique only has $40 to spend on the car rental, what is the maximum number of miles she can drive?

(could you possibly show me the steps?)

Answer:

the maximum no of miles she can drive is 147

Explanation:

Let us assume the number of miles be x

Now the equation is

$17.95 + 0.15x = $40

0.15x = $40 - $17.95

0.15x = $22.05

x = $22.05 ÷ 0.15

= 147 miles

Hence, the maximum no of miles she can drive is 147
