a + b = 41 or a + 8 + 2a = 41 ......the equation

a = 11

b = 30

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the smaller number = a

twice smaller number = 2 * a = 2a

eight more than the twice smaller number = 8 + 2a

Let the larger number = b

b = eight more than the twice smaller number

b = 8 + 2a

Sum of both numbers = 41

a + b = 41 ......the equation

a + 8 + 2a = 41 .....another equation

collect like terms:

3a + 8 = 41

3a = 41 - 8

3a = 33

Divide both sides by 3:

3a/3 = 33/3

a = 11

b = 8 + 2a

b = 8 + 2(11) = 8 + 22

b = 30
