Given data:

The given polynomial is

x^3-5x^2-8x+8^{}

Substitute -2 for x in the above polynomial.

\begin{gathered} (-2)^3-5(-2)^2-8(-2)+8 \\ =-8-20+16+8 \\ =-4 \end{gathered}

As after substituting x=-2 in the polymial is not equal to zero.

Thus, (x+2) is not the factor of the polynomial
