In general the area of a rectangle is given by:

A=a\cdot b

Where a and b are the length of the sides.

From the picture of above we see that the figure can be divided in two rectanbles, 1 and 2.

1) The area of the first rectangle is:

A_1=5ft\cdot3ft=15ft^2

2) The area of the second rectangle is:

A_2=5ft\cdot6ft=30ft^2_{}

The total area of the figure is just the sum of the areas of the rectangles which form it:

A=A_1+A_2=15ft^2_{}+30ft^2=45ft^2

Answer

The area of the figure is 45 ft²
