Step 1

Given; The graph of y=|x|

Required; To transform the graph to y=|x|+2

Step 2

If we add 2 to y as required we will shift the graph up by 2 units as seen below.

The red graph is that of y=|x|

The blue graph is that of y=|x|+2. The graph we are to translate y=|x| to.

Notice the vertex of the red graph is(0,0)

The vertex of the blue graph on the other hand is(0,0+2)=(0,2)

Hence along the vertical, the y axis, the graph was moved up by 2 units hence the + 2 in the function, y=|x|+2
