Let the number be 'x'

So, the difference between 3 times a number and five = 3x - 5

The product of four times the number increased by two = 4x + 2

Therefore, the expression will become

3x - 5 = 4x + 2

Solving the equation we get,

3x - 5 = 4x + 2

3x - 4x = 2 + 5

- x = 7

x = -7

Thus, the num,ber is -7
