In this problem the video game cost 45.00 dollars so this is 100% so now we can use a rule of 3 to calculate the 5.5

\begin{gathered} 45\to100 \\ x\to5.5 \end{gathered}

So the equation is:

\begin{gathered} x=(45\cdot5.5)/(100) \\ x\approx2.5 \end{gathered}

So the total cost will be:

45+2.5=47.5

So if he paid with 50 dollars then:

50-47.5=2.5

Hi will get back $2.5 dollars
