Using the pythagoras theorem

Let's say the hypotenuse of the first diagram is b

b²=4²+2²

b²=16+4

b²=20

b=✔(20)

In finding x , b will be the opposite and the x be the hypotenuse

x²=(✔20)²+7²

x²=20 +49

x²=69

x=8.31
