To find the mean of a frequency distribution.

First, find the mind point in each interval :

(42+45)/ 2 = 43.5

(46+49)/2 =47.5

(50+53)/2 = 51.5

(54+57)/2 = 55.5

(58+61)/2=59.5

Then we are going to calculate the mean using the next formula

mean =∑( f *x) / ∑ f

where f is the frequency and x the mind point

f *x =

43.5 * 28 = 1218

47.5 *12 = 570

51.5 *6 = 309

55.5*4 = 222

59.5*2 = 119

Replace the values

mean =∑( f *x) / ∑ f

mean = ( 1218 + 570 + 309 + 222 +119) / ( 28 +12 + 6 +4 +2)

mean = 2438/ 52

= 46.88

Round to nearest tenth

= 46.9
