Find an equation for the line perpendicular to y=-1/2x+2

and goes through the point (-9,5).

Write your answer in form y=mx+b.

y = (-1/2)x + 2

In this line equation, the slope m is -1/2, so a perpendicualar line must have a slope of 2, because perpendicualr lines have slopes that are reciprocal and with the inverted sign.

the we can write for the pependicular line: y = 2x + b

Using the fact that it goes throuhg (-9, 5), we can write:

5 = 2(-9) + b

5 = -18 + b

b = 5 + 18 = 23

b = 23

Now we know m = 2 and b = 23, therefore the line equation perpendicular to y = (-1/2)x + 2 is:

y = 2x + 23

Answer:

y = 2x + 23
