we have the following ratio:


(ZINC)/(COOPER)=(4)/(17)

Now, we know that there are 578 gr of cooper. By substituting this values into our ratio, we have


(ZINC)/(578)=(4)/(17)

and we must isolate ZINC. This can be done by moving 578 to the right hand side:


\begin{gathered} \text{ZINC}=578\cdot(4)/(17) \\ \text{ZINC}=(578\cdot4)/(17) \\ \text{ZINC}=(2312)/(17) \\ \text{ZINC =136} \end{gathered}

that is, the jar contains 136 gr of zinc
