\text{probability}=\frac{\text{ number of favorable outcomes}}{\text{ total number of outcomes}}

1. even outcomes in the spinner: 4

total outcomes: 12

outcomes with a 3: 3

Applying the addition rule:

\text{ P(even number or a 3) = P(even number)+ P(3) = }(4)/(12)+(3)/(12)=(4+3)/(12)=(7)/(12)

2. outcomes with a 5: 4

outcomes less than 3: 3

Applying the multiplication rule:

\text{ P(5 and less than 3) = P(5)}\cdot\text{ P(less than 3) =}(4)/(12)\cdot(3)/(12)=(4\cdot3)/(12\cdot12)=(12)/(12\cdot12)=(1)/(12)
