Sean has five more than three times as manymarbles as Joe. Write the algebraic expression for the number of marbles Sean has. If joe has 5 marbles how many does he Sean have

Let:

x = Number of marbles of Sean

y = Number of marbles of Joe

Sean has five more than three times as many marbles as Joe, therefore:


x=5+3y

If joe has 5 marbles, then:


\begin{gathered} y=5 \\ x=5+3(5) \\ x=5+15 \\ x=20 \end{gathered}

Sean has 20 marbles
