SSS triangle similarity theorem

AD = 8.3

Step-by-step explanation:

A line parallel to one side intersects two other sides of a triangle, it divides those two sides proportionally.

BC is parallel to DE

Then:

AB/AD = BC/DE

This makes the third side to divide each othe proportionally:

AC/CE = AB/AD = BC/DE

It is said that if 3 sides of a triangle is proportional to 3 sides of another triangle, then the triangles are similar by side-side-side similarity (SSS).

AB/AD = BC/DE

5/AD = 9/15

\begin{gathered} (5)/(AD)=(9)/(15) \\ 5(15)\text{ = 9(AD)} \\ 75\text{ = 9AD} \\ AD\text{ = 75/9} \\ AD\text{ = 8.33} \end{gathered}

To the nearest tenth, AD = 8.3
