In this case you have to multiply 1 7/8 yd of fabric by 2. Doing so, we have:

\begin{gathered} 1(7)/(8)=(8\cdot1+7)/(8)=(15)/(8)\text{ (Converting the mixed number to an improper fraction)} \\ (15)/(8)\cdot(2)/(1)=(30)/(8)\text{ (Multiplying by 2)} \\ (30)/(8)=3(6)/(8)\text{ =3}(3)/(4)\text{ (Converting the improper fraction to a mixed number)} \\ \text{The answer is 3}(3)/(4)\text{ yd of fabric.} \end{gathered}
