2y + 3x

Mya receives one dollar bill and 7 coins

1y + 7x

2y + 3x = 1y + 7x

And y = 100 cents:

2(100) + 3x = 100 + 7x

200 + 3x = 100 + 7x

Solving for x:

subtract 3x from both sides:

200 + 3x - 3x = 100 + 7x - 3x

200 = 100 + 4x

Subtract 100 from both sides:

200 - 100 = 100 + 4x - 100
