3x+2y= 12 (a)

y= x+1 (b)

Replace the value of y (b) on the first equation (a), and solve for x

3x+2(x+1) = 12

Apply distributive property:

3x+2(x)+2(1) = 12

3x+2x+2 =12

Combine like terms

5x+2=12

Subtract 2 from both sides of the equation:

5x+2-2 = 12-2

5x= 10

Divide both sides by 5:

5x/5 = 10/5

x = 2

Plug x in (b) and solve for y

y= x+1

y= 2+1

y=3

Solution: (2,3) option A
