Electrons are the particles in an atom that can move between levels, or orbits, around the nucleus. The larger the orbit of an electron, the more energy it contains.

In order to release energy, an electron must go from a larger energy state to a smaller one.

Answer: an electron must jump from a larger orbit to a smaller orbit
