The women/men ratio in the local shoe store is 3:2

This means that every 5 people 3 will be women and 2 will be men.

You can express this as fractions, the amount of wemen will be 3/5 of the total of shoppers and 2/5 will be men.

Lets say for example that there are 50 persons in the store.

Following the ratio of those 50 persons, 3/5 will be women and 2/5 will be men.

To know the exact number you have to multiply the factions with the total number of people:

50\cdot(3)/(5)=30\text{women}
50\cdot(2)/(5)=20\text{men}
