If I have a rectangular prism with a height of 4, width of 12, and length of 2 what is the lateral area?

Notes to know:

The lateral area and surface area of something are similar, but not the same

-> Surface area is the area of all the sides added up

-> Lateral area is the surface area of all the sides not including the top and bottom

Explanation:

Since this is a rectangular prism, it will have 6 sides in total. That means the lateral area will be a total of four sides.

The sides we need to find for lateral area:

1: 2 * 4 = 8

2: 2 * 4 = 8

3: 12 * 4 = 48

4: 12 * 4 = 48

Add them together:

8 + 8 + 48 + 48 = 112 units²
