We will have that the common denominators are:

(3)/(4)+(1)/(8)=(3\cdot8)/(4\cdot8)+(1\cdot4)/(8\cdot4)=(24)/(32)+(4)/(32)
=(28)/(32)=(7)/(8)

So, the common denominator is 32.
