Give the system of equation:

2x + 7y = 8

y + 2x = 14

Rearrange:

2x + 7y = 8 .......... 1

2x + y = 14 ............2

To use elimination method, we will simply subtract equation 1 from 2 as shown:

(2x-2x)+(7y-y) = 8-14

0+6y = -6

6y= -6

Divide both sides by 6

y = -6/6

y = -1

Substitute y = -1 into equation 2 to get x

From 2: 2x + y = 14

2x +(-1) = 14

2x-1 = 14

2x = 14+1

2x = 15

x = 15/2

x = 7.5

Hence x = 7.5, y = -1
